VK1 and VK7: Two Series to Suit Every Musician!

The VK reeds come in two series: VK1, designed for a Traditional style, and VK7, perfect for Jazz. VK reed strengths are measured in sixths of traditional cane reed strengths. Two reeds with the same strength are completely identical in terms of feel, tone, articulation, projection, and stability in the high register.

A Reed That Stands Up to Any Challenge

The new VK reeds for alto saxophone are made from a patented composite material specially developed by Vandoren after seven years of research. This fiber-reinforced composite doesn’t mimic the structure of cane but reproduces its essential physical properties, allowing the synthetic reed to achieve the same acoustic performance as traditional cane reeds.

The Vandoren VK material is impervious to humidity, rot-proof, resistant to saliva, and doesn’t deform when drying. It’s washable and can be disinfected with alcohol or any food-grade disinfectant.
