NEW! HiWatt: An Amplifier Brand with Cult Status
HiWatt is one of the legendary names in the world of amplifiers, known for its impressive sound quality, sturdy construction, and iconic, powerful sound. Since the 1960s, the brand has shaped music history and is highly regarded by guitarists and bassists worldwide. From now on, the HiWatt portfolio will be distributed by Algam.
Origins and Philosophy
Founded by David Reeves in 1966 in England, HiWatt was designed from the beginning for precision and reliability. Reeves' vision was to build amplifiers that could withstand the challenges of the touring lifestyle while delivering crystal-clear, powerful sound. This philosophy is reflected in every HiWatt product to this day.
The Sound of HiWatt
HiWatt amplifiers are known for their brilliant, clean tone and their ability to remain detailed and transparent even at high volumes. This sound is especially favored by rock, blues, and prog-rock guitarists. ArtistHiwatts like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Pete Townshend (The Who) have immortalized the HiWatt sound on iconic albums and live performances. Many other bands and artists are part of the HiWatt Artist roster, including The Killers, Oasis, Eagles of Death Metal, and Kasabian. HiWatt’s signature "British Sound" is a perfect blend of warmth, clarity, and presence.
Even with a new team, HiWatt stays true to its roots, producing both classic models and modern variants that cater to the needs of today’s musicians. At the same time, the brand is developing solutions for rehearsal spaces, smaller stages, and home use, making the legendary HiWatt sound accessible to a wider audience.
For the Algam launch, all more affordable amps, combos, cabinets, and pedals from the Asian production line are available. The UK-made high-end amps are in full production but will take a little more time, as the original HiWatt UK products are still hand-wired according to the demanding specifications and original plans of Dave Reeves, using only the highest-quality English speakers, components, and audio transformers.

The Filter Fuzz from the Hiwatt Custom Shop is a tonally perfected reinterpretation of the classic '60s fuzz sound. Developed in collaboration with two Hiwatt Custom Shop experts, the Filter Fuzz offers an authentic, fully analog tone with an expanded gain and frequency range. Inspired by the legendary "69" tones on the Grand Funk album, it blends the sound of a Musicraft Messenger guitar with a Heathkit Fuzz, bringing that "Free-Love" moment into modern tone creation.
The original WEM Copicat Tape Delay was known for its ability to give weak guitar pickups more output while producing haunting delay effects and slapback. The WEM CCB-1 Boost Pedal captures the magic of the Copicat preamp in a pedalboard-friendly format, honoring the original design. With up to 21 dB of gain, it sends your guitar sound into orbit, while the FREQ control allows you to precisely shape the bass frequencies.
