Music Man's most collectable and most valuable guitar: Mr. Horsepower
The Crown Jewel of any guitar collection. Only 25 of these ever made in the world. We are talking about Mr. Horsepower. The Nigel Tufnel signature guitar that was designed by Music Man for the rock-mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap”. After the success of this movie, Music Man decided to make 25 pieces of this guitar in the early 00’s, with all proceeds going to charity (The Casey Lee Ball Foundation).
ORIGIN
The mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap”, where this guitar was first used, came out in 1854. The original Mr. Horsepower guitar took only 22 days to design and make. When they were releasing the 20th anniversary of the “Spinal Tap”-DVD, the marketing guys wanted to have a limited edition guitar to sell.
So… The Ernie Ball Music Man company created 25 of these guitars. Each guitar is signed by Nigel and numbered. They went for $5.000 each at the NAMM show they were originally offered. Nowadays, they are going for a lot more!
COOL FEATURES
One of the coolest things about this guitar is that the tachometer responds when the strings are played! Each of the FOUR pickups has its own toggle switch with working dragstrip lights that illuminate when the pickups are on! Nigel personally signed each guitar on the headstock. The headstock (similar to the Van Halen guitars) is hand signed "19-25" next to Nigel's hand written signature.
The Mr. Horsepowers guitar have a Music Man Albert Lee guitar body style. From the stainless steel exhaust and hot-fuel-proof rubber pickup switches, to the working tach, shifter trem arm and unique, specially designed EBMM Roadrunner Logo on the headstock… they are entirely custom guitars, and truly one of a kind.
